The sauna is the heart of the Finnish home, a place to relax...
Read moreThe midsummer celebrations are traditionally celebrated with a sauna and a swim. During the long Midsummer weekend, there is plenty of time to spend in the sauna, from morning to night. It’s a good idea to make sure that the sauna facilities, including changing rooms and refreshment areas, are clean and comfortable. The traditional way to prepare for the Midsummer sauna is to clean and maintain it.
If you’re doing a thorough Midsummer cleaning, including the stove, do it before washing the floors and ceilings. Disconnect the stove from the mains, lift the stove stones out for cleaning. Wash the stones and leave them to dry. The stove can be vacuumed inside and, if necessary, wiped with a damp cloth inside and out.
Next, the sauna and dressing room floors are vacuumed clean of loose dirt. Sun Sauna’s prefabricated prefabricated tiles are easy to dismantle. Once the tiles are removed, vacuuming is effortless and ergonomic.
At Sun Sauna, the cleaning of the decks has been taken into account in the design and good washability allows for excellent hygiene. Good structural solutions ensure effortless cleaning. All our designer prefabricated tents in the range have a slatted frame and a skirted frame structure that can be removed without tools. The tiled sauna floor can then be easily vacuumed and mopped. The floor of a home or cottage sauna can be cleaned using a neutral all-purpose cleaner or other non-allergenic detergent. Chlorite is not recommended because it evaporates into the air when the sauna is heated and is harmful to health!
The next step in the cleaning process is to wash the decks. Sun Sauna’s table care package comes with a table cleaner and a cleaning cloth. The rails are washed one by one with a sponge or brush on both sides of the rails. Usually the front edges of the lauderalls get the most dirt and should therefore be cleaned particularly carefully. The purpose of the sponge or brush is not to apply detergent to the board, but to remove the dirt adhering to the board with the detergent. However, remember to use a brush that is soft enough to avoid scratching the surface of the laude.
Finally, the dirt removed from the tile with a brush is rinsed off the tile surfaces with water. Dirt comes off most easily when enough water is used. It is not advisable to use a pressure washer, as a small amount of water and high pressure will not remove the dirt from the wooden surfaces effectively enough and may also damage the surface of the board. Once washed, dry the tiles by taking them into a warm sauna.
When the ramps are completely dry, the decking is treated with paraffin oil. The oil gives the decking a dirt-repellent protective layer. The oil is best absorbed by the wood when the stove is turned on low and the temperature in the sauna is raised to around 40 degrees. The gentle heat opens up the grain patterns in the surface of the tile and the oil can be better absorbed into the wood.
Use a brush or sponge to apply the oil to both sides of the board. You can start working on the main wooden surfaces of the slats, where the oil will be absorbed more quickly than on other surfaces. Once the top surfaces of the rallies have also been treated, you can apply the oil to the end wood surfaces of the rallies again. Apply the oil to all surfaces visible on the board, including the backrests and intermediate space grates. Allow the oil to soak in for about 1-2 hours. If necessary, wipe off excess oil with a lint-free cloth.
A home sauna should be washed and oiled about 2-3 times a year – a thorough wash at Midsummer and Christmas has traditionally been a good sauna-owner habit.
A thorough cleaning should also include washing the sauna and the bathroom. a glass wall or door between the washroom and the bathroom. When you order a glass wall from Sun Sauna, you will receive a glass wall care package, which includes a clay-based cleaner with a sponge. The cleaner is applied to the glass surfaces by sponging and scrubbing. The clay-based substance abrades the glass surface and mechanically removes any lime deposits that may have accumulated on it. Finally, the glass surfaces are rinsed well with water.
Finally, the sauna is ventilated and tablecloths and clean towels are brought into the changing room for the sauna users. After this, the Midsummer celebrations can begin with the sauna being heated and the sauna answers being made.
Sun Sauna wishes all sauna lovers a happy Midsummer!
