Read moreHeat-treated magnolia is very popular because of its vivid grain pattern, ranging from dark brown to light brown. Magnolia is one degree darker than heat-treated aspen or tar alder. The width of the material also adds to its popularity. Both panels and ceiling materials are available in a much wider width than traditional sauna materials:
Magnolia panel and board are used almost without exception in the saunas of Sun Sauna’s Relax collection. Combining the Relax board package with the wide magnolia panel makes the sauna more massive and modern.
Heat-treated magnolia is prepared in a furnace at a low temperature for a short time. Only heat and water vapour are used in the production process. No chemicals are used in the production process. The heat treatment improves the wood’s resistance to decay and weathering, improves its thermal insulation properties and reduces moisture absorption. At high temperatures, the resin is removed from the wood. At the same time, a beautiful brown colour is obtained.
Magnolia is native to North America and is widely used in interior decoration, including as a decorative tree. The wood is heat treated in Finland and the Baltic countries.
The following pictures are from Sun Saunas where heat treated magnolia was used. There are few ceiling photos so far, but we are adding more all the time. We will post new pictures on Instagram. You can follow us there.
