The Housing Fair draw is over!

The Housing Fair draw is over!

In all the haste, this story was not published on Friday, even though the winner had already heard about it by then! So our 2014 Housing Fair prize and at the same time IKI’s 7.5kW stubby electrically heated pillar stove was won by Eija Piipari from Mikkeli! Sun Sauna wishes Eija congratulations on her victory + warm baths in the autumn sauna!

There was also a “raffle nut”, a question related to one of our trade fair destinations. The question was: “How long does it take to heat the sauna in the Housing Fair’s stand number 13 to 80 degrees Celsius using the 8kW Kajo Wall heater in the sauna?”

The power requirement of the heater is determined by the cubic volume of the sauna. To the actual cubic volume should also be added any “extra cubic metres” of uninsulated surfaces.

The rear wall of the sauna on this site was 2290 mm wide, 1503 mm deep and about 2350 mm high. This gives a volume of about 8,11 m3. The sauna also has a glass wall with half-wall high side windows between the sauna and the washroom. The “extra cubes” provided by the glass surfaces are obtained by adding up the surface areas (m2) of the glass and multiplying this sum by 1.2.

The total area of the glass wall of the object is about 3.65 m2, multiply this by 1.2 and the number of “extra cubes” is 4.38 m3.The actual calculated volume of the sauna is then 4.38 + 8.11 = 12.49m3.

The Kajo Wall 8kW electric heater is intended for saunas between 7 and 13 m3 in size. The heater manufacturer states on its website that the stones of the heater heat up to the required temperature in about 45-60 minutes(http://www.kajokiuas.fi/kajo/tuote.aspx?tuote=2477).

There were lots of guesses about the heating time, from all sides. Hopefully at least a few of you remembered this important “rule of thumb” on how to size your sauna heater correctly! 🙂

As an extra surprise we would like to reward a few guessers with Sun Sauna’s high quality Home Spa towels, the winners of the extra prize will be announced soon.

Have a very nice autumn & good luck to all builders and renovators for the autumn projects!
