Brewing materials

Sauna materials, board wood and panel materials:

We use untreated A-quality hardwoods as sauna table materials. The most popular sauna board woods are heat-treated aspen, heat-treated aspen and aspen. The Log range is made of glulam spruce and the Dura range of heat-treated pine.

The most common board material is 28 x 90 mm, but wider ones are available such as 28 x 120 mm, 28 x 140 mm, heat-treated magnolia 30 x 180 mm and solid spruce 40 x 200 mm. Heat treated table material options are popular for their good durability and beautiful colour. Heat treatment affects the properties of the wood, among other things by reducing moisture absorption and warping, which is why we recommend its use as a boarding material, especially for wide and long boarding materials.

When making the board, the boards are arranged in such a way as to minimise the colour differences inherent to wood, but as a natural material, wood always has differences in tone.

Board frames are made of steel or softwood, depending on the requirements of the environment.

All the wood used by Sun Sauna is of A quality and carpenter-dry, i.e. ready for installation without the need for moisture levelling.

  • The Giant’s Owl
    • Giant particle litter is a very durable and relatively soft litter material. Its colour varies from the dark brown of heartwood to the light shade of the surface wood. The clear variations in colour make the surface of the wood lively, and it is very resistant to sauna conditions. Tuija is a valued sauna material with a pleasant fragrance. Thanks to its porous structure, it is light and does not feel uncomfortably hot.
  • Blacksmith
    • Tarred alder is the most commonly used sauna table material. It is a beautiful light-coloured material with a very moderate grain pattern. The colour varies from reddish to reddish brown.
  • Heat-treated tarred alder
    • The colour of the heat-treated tar is a beautiful brown. The differences in tone are smaller than in heat-treated ash. Heat-treated tarry alder is dimensionally stable, rot-resistant and non-toxic, using only water vapour and heat in the manufacturing process.
  • Heat-treated aspen
    • Heat-treated aspen is a popular sauna material. The colour of heat-treated aspen is a beautiful brown and the treatment of the aspen with paraffin oil deepens the colour even further. The clear grain pattern and variations in colour make the surface of the wood come alive. Heat-treated aspen is dimensionally stable, rot-resistant and non-toxic, using only water vapour and heat in the manufacturing process.
  • Heat treated magnolia
    • Heat-treated magnolia is a wonderful material for sauna interior. Heat-treated magnolia has a beautiful, very vivid scalloped pattern that many people will instantly fall in love with. The colour varies from dark brown to light brown, but the overall effect is darker than in heat-treated or heat-treated wood. This material is available in a 140 mm wide panel and a 30×180 mm board.
  • Haapa
    • Untreated aspen is a traditional sauna cooking material. Aspen is a very light and even-coloured material. Due to its light colour, aspen is well suited for tinting and gives an even finish. Aspen can be treated with a variety of sauna waxes and tinted panel protectors.
  • Heat-treated pine
    • Heat-treated pine is the most durable board material. Clear colour variations make the surface of the wood look alive. Heat-treated pine is dimensionally stable, rot-resistant and non-toxic, using only water vapour and heat in the manufacturing process. Heat-treated Scots pine has a slanted branch that does not come loose when used in a sauna. We aim to use heat-treated pine for all decking in housing estates and swimming pools, for example. Heat-treated pine is the number one material choice for cottage holidays.
